Out with the flu

When you are at home with some kind of sickness or some thing on a school day here is what you should check up on and do.

It might feel good to you that you have no work to do and nothing to worry about. Actually your teacher may hand out a study guide for a big test or even little home work. If you miss that it could affect your grade latter on. The teachers are going to be more strict about there due dates and deadlines and having an absence in there class is going to make them a little annoyed. Make sure the day you back to school you go to that teacher and ask for papers that you missed in class that day and brief summery of the things that she taught that day. Also remember to turn in a late assignment the day your teacher told you to, don't turn in a late assignment on Friday when it was due on Wednesday. This if a good way to make your teacher mad because they are busy and they have other things to do.

A good way to know if you have home work on a day that you missed is to call one of your friends in that class and then you can know that you have to go talk to that teacher the next day. Also ask her if your teacher said any thing important so you can know to.

If you are out of school for more than 2 days and planning to stay in bed a little longer. Ask your mom to call your school to gather any home work and assignments from all your teachers so your friend can pick it up and give it to you. Write down any questions you have about the assignments on a sticky note a put it on that assignment. This will show your teacher that you are serious about your work.

Last remember to rest up and get better soon!! : )

Getting ready for the Big test

When you have a big exam or test coming up and you feel a little behind on studying here are some tips to help you study.

  • See how many days you have until the big exam, then plan out how you are going to study along with getting all of your other homework done
  • If your teacher gives you a study packet, USE it, and if you are missing papers or have questions, ASK them.
  • If your teacher did not give you a study packet, use your notes to make mini quizes that you can work on with your parents.
  • Make sure you pay attention the last few days in class, because that is when your teachers are going to tell you more info that can help you on the test
  • Make sure your notes are readable so you can actually study from them
  • Make sure that you have a good nights sleep before the test. This will make it easier for you to concentrate and focus
  • Make sure that you have a nice breakfast because studies have shown that a brain works better with food in your system.
  • Before your teacher hands out the test, take a few deep breathes and remember to DO YOUR BEST

The Hallways

The hallways at your school can be scary to walk through. Here is some advice to help you from freaking out! : )

Walking

Don't walk slow but don't walk fast, keep at a steady pace. That way you will not get yelled at by the people behind you and you won't get talked to by teachers.

Stay out of the way

Some areas of your school probably get very crowded, like the stairs. To help prevent from being pushed by other people stay on the right side of the hallway and the same for stairs. Try to avoid walking in the middle because some people like to run down the middle of the hallway and you could land flat on your face.

OH NO

Oh no, there is a huge crowd to where your next class is and the bell is about to ring. In situations like this it is good to know diferent routes to get to all your classes, so you don't end up late and in trouble. It might be a good idea to get a map of your school and highlight all the different routes to get to all of your classes.

Homework

Homework can be hard and it can be stressful if you have a lot of it. Use these tips to help you!

Get it done

When you get assigned homework, do it that night even if it is due 2 days later. This will help you from feeling the stress of having more homework to do the next day.

Mark it down

When you get assigned a big project, test, homework etc. mark it down on a calendar or planner. This way you know what you have to work on that night, when things are due and big events that are going to happen. This will help you stay organized and not feel rushed.

Make a space

Make your own homework zone. This is a place where you can relax and focus on your work. Your homework zone should have these things.

  1. Be in a quiet area
  2. Have a comfy chair so your not fidgeting around
  3. Be close to all the supplies you need to finish your work
  4. Be clean and organized
  5. Have an cork board or magnet board to hang up important papers
  6. Have 1 or 2 inspiring posters to keep you motivated ( optional )
  7. One small nick-nack to comfort you  ( optional )

Take a break

When you are doing your homework it is ok to take a small break. This doesn't mean sit down in front of the T.V. It means to get up, walk around the house, stretch your legs, listen to some music. Your break should only be 10min long so it may be a good idea to set 10 mins on a kitchen timer so you don't go overboard.
